To Me, probably no performer says Woodstock more than Jimi Hendrix, a guitar genius. Today, people think of Jimi as typifying the Hippie drug culture. Drugs yes, they killed him, but few people know that Hendix had served in the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division and was a fairly partiotic guy.
No two guitarists have influenced me more as a player than Hendrix and Clapton. It's probably more apparent in my style than I like to admit. He died before my time, but he is still a part of my consciousness and life nonetheless.
As for him dying of a drug overdose, that is true. But it's important to note that it was an accidental overdose via a package of over-the-counter sleeping pills, the label of which Hendrix could not read because it was printed German.
And you're right, there was no question that Hendrix loved America.
Wallace, We must both be on the same 'Woodstock Wavelength'....I just posted a photo and comment this morning for the 'young'uns'...:)
Would you mind if I copied and pasted this entry and comment about Hendrix alongside my Woodstock poster photo? It really needs some music like Jimi's....:) Cindi
